INTRODUCTION

The Sakya Center is a monastic institute and is the personal monastery of His Holiness Sakya Trizin and the principal seat of the Sakya Order of Tibetan Buddhism . The present director of the Center is Venerable Acharya Jamyang Legshey La.

The Sakya Center offers traditional education in Buddhist religion, rituals, ritual music and dance, art and other related subjects. Besides these subjects, the students also learn English and Hindi to keep up with the changing world and need for communication with the local population and the ability to spread the teachings of Lord Buddha.

After completing their studies at the Center, students attend either Sakya Thubten Namgyal Ling Institute or the Sakya College for further education in Higher Buddhist Studies.

The Center is a charitable society and is duly registered with the Government of India. It accepts students from all over India and from the neighboring countries of Nepal and Bhutan irrespective of caste and in a non-discriminatory manner. The present strength of the Center is about 300 including both students and staff members.

The Sangha increases every year with new entrants joining the Center regularly. Presently, the Center tries its best to provide for all aspects of life of the residents including food, clothing and shelter. It also provides for the medical expenses as well as other expenditures. The residents of the Center range from the very young to the very old.

The main sources of income for the Center are donations from devotees, aid agencies and  sponsorships and some grants from the government of India and the Central Tibetan Administration, Dharamsala. The Center, apart from taking on all these responsibilities, also embarks on new projects including the construction of new residential buildings to accommodate its residents who multiply each year and computer training for its students to facilitate publishing of Buddhist texts. Any help, material or financial, is welcomed and should be directed to its Director. Any other information, if required, can be obtained from the Center at their email or mail address.

* Sakya Nunnery and Sakya Hospital are also projects of Sakya Center.
